Save the Date: AAS 248 on 14-18 June 2026; Session Proposals Due 3 March 2026

12 February 2026

Please save the date for the upcoming American Astronomical Society Summer Meeting (AAS 248), to be held 14-18 June 2026 in Pasadena, California at the Pasadena Convention Center. This meeting will be joint with the High Energy Astrophysics Division (HEAD) as the next HEAD meeting is not scheduled until September 2027 (joint with DPS).

Given the response to the last HEAD meeting, we want to keep the community connected and especially recognize that a 2-year gap between divisional meetings can be detrimental to early career members.

We anticipate a full scientific line up of 16 contributed HEAD sessions at AAS 248, as well as, the 2025 Early Career Prize Plenary will be presented by Dr. Carolyn Kierans.

The meeting website is accessible through this link.

Special session and splinter meeting proposals are due by Tuesday, 3 March 2026. For submitting special sessions related to HEAD, please:

  1. Include "HEAD" at the beginning of the title,
  2. Select either AM or PM based on the preferred time of day but ignore the actual time given as we will not schedule these to overlap with the contributed HEAD sessions,
  3. Provide additional timing information in the Comments section such as "Do not overlap with HEAD contributed sessions", "Before 10am", etc.

Lastly, please consider donating to the HEAD travel fund to support student and early career members presenting their work.

This cropped horizontal image has layers of semi-opaque rusty red colored gas and dust that starts at the bottom right and goes toward the top left. There are three prominent pillars rising toward the top left. The left pillar is the largest and widest. The peaks of the second and third pillars are set off in darker shades of brown and have red outlines.
