Caldwell 7: Amateur Image vs. Hubble Image
Two images of Caldwell 7 (C7), a spiral galaxy some 12 million light-years away in the constellation Camelopardalis. The left image was taken with an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope using a 0.63x focal reducer and a DSLR Camera. The right image was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble image, which captures the core and some of the spiral arms of Caldwell 7, was taken with Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys on August 17, 2004, two weeks after a Japanese amateur astronomer discovered Supernova 2004dj.
