Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1073

NGC 1073 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Cetus, the Whale. It is about 55 million light-years distant. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is thought to be a similar barred spiral, but with a smaller central bar and better defined, more symmetrical spiral arms.
