ROSES-24: D.19 HWO System Technology Demonstrations & Mission Architecture Studies DRAFT Text Released for Community Comment

When it is solicited, D.19 Habitable Worlds Observatory System Technology Demonstrations and Mission Architecture Studies (HWOTAS) will seek industry-led proposals to carry out (1) system-level critical technology demonstrations for ultra-stable observatories and/or (2) mission architecture studies for system-level ultra-stable observatory approaches for the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO).

The solicited system-level technology demonstrations are expected to increase the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) to close crucial technology gaps and to inform architecture trades, retire or mitigate project risks, and/or decrease fabrication lead times and overall cost in implementing technologies necessary for HWO.

The solicited mission architecture studies are expected to advance HWO’s Concept Maturity Levels (CMLs) [PDF] by assessing the benefits, sensitivities, and risks of NASA-provided HWO mission architecture concepts and associated parameter studies that are currently under consideration.

Successful responses to this program element will result in firm-fixed-price contracts incrementally funded through milestone payments.
