ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers)

NASA’s Second ESCAPADE Spacecraft Completes Trajectory Maneuver

Most of the image is the black expanse of space. Mars, shown in tan, fills the bottom third of the image. Above it, the ESCAPADE spacecraft, primarily two large panels, orbits above the planet.

On Jan. 6, the mission operations team for NASA’s ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) successfully completed the second trajectory correction maneuver for one of the two spacecraft, after delaying the attempt in December 2025. The other spacecraft completed its first two maneuvers in December as originally planned. This maneuver sets up the […]

NASA’s ESCAPADE Trajectory Correction Maneuver Delayed

An illustration shows the orbit of the twin ESCAPADE spacecraft arcing from Earth towards Mars

During trajectory correction maneuvers for NASA’s twin ESCAPADE spacecraft on Dec. 8 and Dec. 12, the mission operations team noticed low thrust during the burn for one of the spacecraft. The team is working to identify the cause and will attempt a trajectory correction maneuver in the coming weeks.   The other spacecraft has successfully completed […]

NASA’s Mars-bound ESCAPADE Mission Captures First ‘Selfies’

Two side-by-side images show an edge-on view of a solar array in visible light on the left and infrared light on the right. In the left image, the edge of the solar panel looks like a light brown metallic band crossing against the blackness of space from upper left to lower right, with fainter gray and white features on the underside of the panel appearing to the left of it. In the right image, the whole panels appears as a rectangular diagonal shape, glowing in shades of yellow, orange, and purple.

About a week after its launch, NASA’s ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) mission has already captured its first images: a pair of self-portraits showing part of the spacecraft as the twin explorers speed away from Earth. On Nov. 21, one of the two ESCAPADE spacecraft used its Visible and Infrared Observation System […]

NASA’s Twin ESCAPADE Spacecraft Have Deployed

    Two spacecraft approach Mars

NASA’s ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) twin spacecraft have deployed from the Blue Origin New Glenn second stage. The spacecraft will go into a kidney bean-shaped Earth-proximity phase lasting roughly a year, before initiating a trans-Mars Injection engine burn sometime in November 2026. The speed gained ahead of the burn will allow […]

Weather Looks Great for Today’s Launch

Blue Origin rocket carrying NASA's ESCAPADE is vertical on the launch pad.

Weather officials with Blue Origin predict a 95% chance of favorable weather for today’s launch of NASA’s ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) mission.  The ESCAPADE mission is the first coordinated multi-spacecraft orbital science mission to Mars. Its twin orbiters will take simultaneous observations from different locations around the Red Planet. The observations […]
