NASA and Zooniverse will work together to engage participants in projects that span the wide range of NASA’s science divisions: astrophysics, heliophysics, planetary science, and earth science.
Citizen science efforts are frequently used to groundtruth or analyze remotely collected data, with impressive results in fields as diverse as archeology to climatology. On the flip side, citizen scientists have amassed impressive data sets of observations. These data sets may hold heretofore... Read More
Comet NEOWISE is visible in an aurora-filled sky in this photo by Aurorasaurus Ambassador Donna Lach. The photo was taken early on July 14, 2020, in western Manitoba, Canada. The purple ribbon-like structure to the left is STEVE, an aurora-related phenomenon discovered with the help of citizen... Read More
You can assist scientists in figuring out the mysteries of planet formation. Disk Detective is a collaboration between professional scientists and members of the public.
With the help of citizen scientists, astronomers have discovered two highly unusual brown dwarfs, balls of gas that are not massive enough to power themselves the way stars do.
NASA's new citizen science project, NeMO-Net is making waves! NeMO-Net is a game where players help NASA classify coral reefs by painting 3D and 2D images of coral. Players embark on a virtual research vessel and travel the oceans by analyzing actual images of corals on the sea floor. As you... Read More
Citizen science projects have demonstrated promise for engaging new audiences in the practice of science. Sometimes this is accomplished by engaging new audiences in existing investigations, sometimes by developing new investigations based on questions arising from communities typically... Read More
On June 15, 2020, a citizen scientist spotted a never-before-seen comet in data from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO — the 4,000th comet discovery in the spacecraft’s 25-year history.
