Blackjack Bay Fire in Okefenokee Refuge

On May 8, 2002, the Blackjack Bay complex fire in southeast Georgia was creating heavy smoke. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite. The lightning-caused fire is mostly being allowed to take its natural course; however, structures and private property are being protected.
