On March 19, 2009, Tropical Cyclone Ilsa hit Category 3 storm strength, with winds of 100 knots, but the storm was headed west, away from land, into the southern Indian Ocean. This image of the storm was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
