The dust that blew toward Cyprus from the coast of Turkey on the previous day stretched and thinned on August 26, 2008. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture on August 26. In this image, skies over Cyprus are largely clear. The dust, however, forms a large angular shape over the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. The dust plume appears widest immediately west of Cyprus. In the east, the dust narrowly misses the Syrian coastline.
