On August 25, 2004, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite observed a large plume of Saharan Desert dust blowing over the Canary Islands off Africa’s northwest coast. The dust (light brown pixels) can be seen clearly arcing toward the northeast over the Atlantic Ocean toward the Strait of Gibraltar. The high-resolution copy of the image available here is 250 meters per pixel.
