Dust plumes blew off the coast of Libya and over the Mediterranean Sea in early April 2009. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image on April 12, 2009. In this image, the thickest plume appears near Libya’s border with Tunisia and blows east-northeast. Farther east, thinner plumes blow toward the northwest. Although some of the dust likely originates farther inland, the plumes appear to arise primarily along the coast.
