A dust storm swept off the coast of Egypt and over the Mediterranean Sea on January 23, 2006. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying onboard the Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. This image shows a thin veil of dust moving in a counterclockwise direction and mixing with clouds over the sea. Although North Africa is the likely suspect, the exact source of dust can’t be clearly discerned from this image. Even under a haze of aerosols, however, the lush Nile Delta clearly stands out from its arid surroundings as a green triangle.
