Haze over Beijing

July 27, 2007

Haze collected over the Beijing region on July 27, 2007. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying on NASA’s Terra satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, the haze mingles with clouds, appearing only slightly darker in color and more diffuse in shape. Haze is thick enough to completely hide Beijing, and low-lying haze clings to the river valleys north of the city.
