Thick haze continued to linger over the northern Indus River Valley on November 5, 2009, continuing a week-long pattern. The haze may be a combination of smoke from agricultural fires, urban air pollution, and dust from the area’s numerous deserts. Topography may be helping to concentrate the haze. The Sulaiman Range Mountains line the valley to the west, and the foothills of the Himalaya rise to the northeast.
