The Mason Fire in southern Colorado had grown to 11,700 acres as of July 12, 2005. The National Interagency Fire Center was reporting that the blaze was about 30 percent contained, but was still threatening communities and natural resources on the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains west of the city of Pueblo.
This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite on July 11, 2005. The image is an infrared-enhanced, false-color image in which vegetation is bright green, water is blue, naturally bare or thinly vegetated land is tan or light pink, and burned areas are reddish-brown.
