Luis Dominguez

Psyche Deputy Electrical Integration and Test Lead

About Luis

My name is Luis Antonio Dominguez.  I'm a SHPE Professional first-generation student and a Systems Integration & Test Engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) where I've been employed since November of 2007.  I’ve had the honor to be a designated as a Marshall Memorial Fellow for the German Marshall Fund of the United States as part of their 2020-2021 cohort.

Education

I studied Mechanical Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  I'm the proud son of two immigrant parents from Latin America, my mother is from Mexico and my father is from Honduras.  I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles.

Experience

I’ve worked in the Testbeds for Mars Science Laboratory (MSL, Curiosity) and subsystem avionics for Motor Control on Mars 2020 (Perseverance).  I've also had the opportunity to work on prior ATLO’s for Mars Science Laboratory, Soil Moisture Active Passive, & Mars 2020, where I served as the deputy Electrical Lead for the ATLO team.  Although I love technical engineering analysis, tinkering with electronics, and programming my primary drive in life is helping others.

Ever since I started working for NASA/JPL, I've used the bully pulpit afforded to me to talk to, inspire, and mentor youth all around Los Angeles through presentations and other programs.  In my spare time, I love to play soccer, talk to kids, run, ride my bike, read books, watch documentaries, & watch endless educational YouTube videos.

My life’s motto is immortalized in the words of Howard Zinn, “You can’t be neutral on a moving train.”
