At Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex 41, the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution, or MAVEN, spacecraft is encapsulated atop an Atlas V rocket. At 37 and a half feet long and, when fully fueled, weighing 5,400-pounds, MAVEN is about the size of a family sport utility vehicle.
