Widely Scattered Fires across Central Africa
November 30, 2002

Scores of fires continue to burn across the savannas and the Sahel of central Africa. This true-color image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite was captured on November 30, 2002, and shows active fire detections marked with red dots. In the upper right hand quadrant, Lake Chad and its surrounding wetlands make a green splash against the paler desert sands of the Sahara.
