Black pools of water in the Agusan River Basin show where the River has pushed over its banks following days of heavy rain. Three people died, and thousands more fled their homes as the flood waters rose. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image pair contrasts the size of the Agusan River on February 8, 2004, just before the rains began, to the flood conditions seen on February 17, 2004. Here, vegetation is orange and water is blue and black. Both images were acquired by the MODIS instrument on the Terra satellite. The high resolution images provided above are at MODIS’ maximum resolution of 250 meters per pixel.
