After almost two weeks of agricultural burning across Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola in west-central Africa, a pall of smoke now hangs over the region, nearly hiding the surface from view in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from May 17, 2004. Active fire detections made by MODIS are marked in yellow.
