Harsh Winter in Turkey

 

The predominantly mountainous terrain of the Republic of Turkey iscovered by snow in this Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) true-color image, produced from datacollected on January 13, 2002. The snow-laced peaks of the Kure Daglarimountain range in the north can be seen as they range from theupper middle of the image to the upper right. The mountains parallel the northerncoastline, which opens to the Black Sea. Also visible in this image, atthe bottom right, is the island of Cyprus.
