Clouds of smoke billow from an active fire in this detailed true-color image taken by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite on October 13, 2010. The image shows a rural area in Queensland, Australia. Freshly burned land is darker brown than the pale unburned vegetation. The fire burned across two roads, the light-colored straight lines that flank the most active fire area in the center of the image.
