The V shaped Scopan Lake, oriented with the open end up, is surrounded by green, relatively flat land. To the left of the lake the Aroostook River runs from the top  before meandering to the left in the center. Another branch of the river proceeds to the bottom of the image. A sawmill is labelled in some cleared land along the river in the center left of the image.

The construction of a small hydroelectric power station in the northern part of the state helped form this V-shaped lake.
