Dan Woods, Strategic Integration and Management Director
Dan Woods is the Division Director for the Strategic Integration and Management Division (SI&MD), responsible for the Directorate’s strategic planning and messaging, science advisory committee, congressional, and executive activities. He is also responsible for the administrative support provided to Directorate employees.
Mr. Woods received a B.S. (Political Science) from the University of Tennessee, Martin in 1988, and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1990. He joined NASA in 1990 as a Presidential Management Intern and acquired extensive experience as a Program Analyst for Earth and space science programs. In 1995, he successfully completed a one-year assignment in the Office of External Relations, supporting negotiations with Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom on various Earth science programs. From 1996 to 2004, he served as a Policy Analyst and gained significant experience supporting the strategic planning, executive communication, congressional, and education and public outreach activities for NASA’s science program.
When the Space Science and Earth Science programs merged in 2004 to become the Science Mission Directorate, Mr. Woods became the Administration Branch Chief in the Management and Policy Division. In 2008, Mr. Woods graduated from NASA’s Leadership Development Program after completing a one-year assignment at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Upon his return to NASA Headquarters, Mr. Woods served as the Acting SI&MD Director until his selection for the position in December 2009.
