Abstract
The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) is a highly efficient multi-object fiber spectrograph designed to measure the expansion rate of the universe with a galaxy redshift survey containing tens of millions of galaxies and quasars. Its unprecedented capabilities allow us to create the most detailed 3D maps of the universe to date. In this talk, I will describe the selection of DESI’s spectroscopic targets, how DESI measures baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) to measure the expansion rate of the Universe out to a redshift of 3.5, and what these results reveal about dark energy.
