12 June 2024

For decades, NASA has safely used artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to support missions and advance science and technology. As we continue to explore for the benefit of humanity, NASA remains committed to formalizing AI protocols and processes for AI usage and expanding efforts to further AI innovations across the agency.

On Wednesday 22 May 2024, NASA held an Artificial Intelligence Town Hall, in the Webb Auditorium, NASA Headquarters, to discuss the Agency’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of AI across the agency.

Hosted by Administrator Bill Nelson and Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, the Artificial Intelligence Town Hall brought together NASA experts pioneering and leading the use of AI, including:

  • AC Charania, chief technologist
  • David Salvagnini, chief artificial intelligence officer
  • Jeff Seaton, chief information officer
  • Kate Calvin, chief scientist

A recording of the event can be accessed on NASA’s YouTube channel.
