NewAthena Community Call for Papers

Call for papers for a Special A and A Issue by 30 September 2025.

As stated in the NewAthena Science Community membership announcement [PDF], there will be a Special Issue on the mission science to be published in Astronomy & Astrophysics.

A satellite with two extended solar panel arrays orbits above Earth, with the planet's curved horizon, clouds, and atmosphere visible below against the blackness of space.
Athena Mission

The NewAthena Science Study Team and the Athena Community Office invite the whole science community worldwide to fill this form to propose papers for that Special Issue, with a deadline of 30 September 2025. The selected papers will be announced in November 2025, and will have to be ready (with a maximum length of ~6 pages) by mid 2026.

All papers shall assume the NewAthena scientific performance as described in Table 1 of Cruise et al. (2025). The NewAthena web pages will provide the links to the updated files at the time of this call.

Papers describing prospective observations covering the whole breadth of the NewAthena science and new scientific areas will be welcomed. The full details of this call are available here [PDF].

Participate and help us build an inspiring NewAthena science case for adoption, implementation, and launch in the second half of 2030s!
