A fast-moving fire north of Los Angeles, California, forced thousands of people from their homes over the weekend of July 17 and 18, 2004. This image of the Foothill Fire was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)on NASA’s Aqua satellite on July 18, 2004. The areas where MODIS detected active fire are outlined in red.
