Fires in the Foothills of the Caucasus Mountains
November 23, 2002

Where Europe meets Asia, the Caucasus Mountains stretch from the Black Sea in the east to the Caspian Sea in the west. In this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured on November 23, 2002, by the Aqua satellite, the snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus stretch through the center, and numerous fires (red dots) dot the plains and foothills to the north.
