A cluster of volcanoes rises majestically above the ocean of clouds covering the Kamchatka Peninsula in Eastern Russia. Klyuchevskaya (Kliuchevskoi), the peninsulaâs highest volcano, and Bezymianny, its sister peak, have recently been active. To the south, the clouds ripple around Plosky Tolbachik, leaving a slight wake behind the peak. This false-color image was acquired by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on the Terra satellite on January 21, 2004.
