In southern Sudan (left) and eastern Ethiopia (right) NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite saw numerous fires burning on November 5, 2002. A faint, sinuous, gray-green line winding through the top center of the image is the Nile.
