Caldwell 23: Amateur Image vs. Hubble Image
Caldwell 23 (C23) is a spiral galaxy located some 35 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. Spanning some 100,000 light-years, we see Caldwell 23 exactly edge-on, revealing its thick plane of dust and interstellar gas. The left image was taken with an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope using a 0.63x focal reducer and a DSLR Camera. The right image was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
