Fires (red dots) in Thailand (left), Cambodia (center), and Vietnam (right) are producing smoky skies over Southeast Asia. (Between Thailand and Vietnam is Laos.) Running southward through Cambodia, a broad section of the Mekong River stands out in brown against green vegetation. This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image was acquired by the Terra satellite on January 13, 2003.
