This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the the Terra satellite on July 2, 2003, shows fires (red dots), smoke, and deforestation in Mato Grosso, Brazil (right), and Bolivia (bottom left). At image right, the Xingu National Park and Indigenous Peoples Preserve hangs like a green pendulum down from the still-intact stretches of Amazon Rainforest to the north.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS? maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
