Ambrym Volcano emitted a thin plume, likely rich in sulfur dioxide, on December 3, 2009. Ambrym Island is part of the Vanuatu archipelago, along the western boundary of the Pacific “Ring of Fire.” This natural-color image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite.
