Sudan’s Shifting Sands

Winds were at work this winter, sculpting the landscape in Sudan. On February 2, 2017, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite captured this image of a dust storm above the arid country. Faint streaks indicate recently transported dust and sand, as well as older buildup.
