There were a number of fires burning across several Japanese islands on June 3, 2002, while a pall of greyish smoke was visible blowing in from mainland Asia. This true-color scene was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Terra satellite.
