Webb’s Science Themes

Colorful illustration representing various aspects of Webb science: deep blue with scattered points of light of different size and brightness; a jagged line representing a light spectrum; a hexagon filled with shapes representing objects and materials at different distances and points in time, including stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae, and black holes.

Webb’s near- to mid-infrared sensitivity, and high-resolution imaging and spectroscopic capabilities have already revealed parts of the universe hidden to our eyes, such as stars among clouds of dusts, water in the atmospheres of other worlds, and the deepest image of the universe ever taken.
