On March 31, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite detected numerous fires (red dots) burning in the central United States. States shown are (top left to bottom) Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas; (center, top to bottom), Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana; Illinois (far top right) and Mississippi (bottom right edge.)

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS? maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
