Roughly a dozen fires (red pixels) dotted the landscape on the main Philippine island of Luzon on April 1, 2002. This true-color image was acquired by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Terra spacecraft.
