In West Africa, biomass burning continues in late February. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite shows fires (red dots) detected by MODIS. Countries shown are (clockwise from top right) Mali, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Gambia.
The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
