This true-color image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on the Aqua satellite shows scores of fires (red dots) burning across Madagascar, off the southeast coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. This image was captured on June 30, 2003.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
