Clear skies over the West Coast on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, revealed forest fires (red dots) still raging in southwestern and south-central Oregon. A smoke plume from the Florence and Sour Biscuit Fires drifts southward over the Pacific Ocean. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite.
