As Tropical Storm Cindy tracks northwest through the Gulf of Mexico, people on the Gulf Coast are bracing for heavy rains and potentially dangerous flash floods.
Many areas in the path of the storm will see between 6 and 9 inches (15 and 23 centimeters) of rain, according to the National Hurricane Center. Southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama could see as much as 12 inches (30 centimeters) in isolated areas.
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image of the storm at 12:48 p.m. Central Time (17:48 Universal Time) on June 20, 2017.
