
Sarah Rees
Flight Operations Team Lead
Sarah Rees is the Flight Operations Team Lead for the Cold Atom Lab. She operates the CAL instrument onboard the ISS, commanding it remotely from JPL and collaborating with the CAL scientists to collect data for their quantum experiments in microgravity. Sarah also focuses on ISS Integration, speaking directly to astronauts on the ISS during repairs or installation of new CAL hardware.
In addition to her work on CAL, Sarah also works concurrently on the Mars Rover Perseverance. She holds a M.S. in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Colorado School of Mines. Sarah has received 2 JPL Voyager Awards in 2023, and the NASA Honor Award – Early Career Achievement Medal in 2024, for her achievement in anomaly recovery and complex operation efforts in support of the Cold Atom Lab.
