Earthrise from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO)

Earth seen from the surface of the Moon.

Earth’s abundant water makes all the life we know possible. Did comets deliver water to our “blue marble”? The Webb telescope will trace the origins of water in developing planetary systems. This image of Earth straddling the limb of the Moon was captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera on October 12, 2015.
