2023 Webb Science Snippets: The Early Universe

How is the James Webb Space Telescope expanding our understanding of the early universe?

Maximilien Franco and Micaela Bagley from the University of Texas at Austin, and James Trussler from the University of Manchester say that studying the first billion years of the universe can tell us how galaxies form and grow during this period of great transition, and that Webb is already “really transforming our understanding of the properties of those first galaxies.” Their research was presented at The First Year of JWST Science Conference, held September 11-14, 2023, at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.
