Antarctica's Amery Ice Shelf Calves Giant Iceberg
Sept. 12, 2019 - Oct. 14, 2019
These images show D28, an iceberg estimated to weigh 315 billion tons (286 billion metric tons), before and after it broke free from Antarctica's Amery Ice Shelf and drifted into the Southern Ocean. Roughly the size of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, D28 is the largest iceberg to calve from the ice shelf since the 1960s. Images taken by Landsat 8.
