A cluster of fires (red dots) in northwest India is generating a plume of smoke that stretches to the southeast along the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite captured this image on October 15, 2003. In the upper right corner is the Tibetan Plateau.
