Agricultural Fires in Western Russia

Winter lingered to the north, but in west-central Russia, spring burning was underway on April 24, 2009, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed overhead and captured this image. Hundreds of fires (locations marked with red dots) were burning across the agricultural areas surrounding Moscow.
